Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We visually assess the switchboard for age indicators, neatness of wiring, circuit identification, safe access, and obvious defects such as scorch marks, heat damage or cracked housings. Clear labelling and a tidy layout reduce confusion in an emergency and help an electrician isolate faults safely.
We check whether safety switches appear to be installed and note any gaps where RCD protection is commonly expected, such as power and lighting circuits. While this is not a full electrical test, spotting missing or outdated protection can highlight urgent upgrades to reduce shock risk.
Where accessible, we look for damaged insulation, unsupported cabling, DIY joins, and signs of rodent or insect impact. In Harkaway, cable runs to sheds, carports and outdoor areas are common; poor protection or exposure can lead to deterioration and faults.
We inspect a representative sample of GPOs, switches and light fittings for cracking, looseness, heat discolouration and incorrect covers. These visual cues can point to overheating, poor connections or moisture entry, particularly in older rooms, laundries and outdoor entertaining zones.
We visually check for smoke alarms, their general placement and physical condition, and note where alarms appear missing or poorly positioned. We also flag alarms that look aged, damaged or incorrectly installed so you can prioritise compliance and occupant safety.
We assess visible outdoor lights, power points and isolators for obvious weather sealing issues, cracked covers and unsafe positioning. With Harkaway’s greener setting and exposure to rain and debris, compromised weatherproofing can lead to corrosion, tripping circuits and unsafe touch points.

An Electrical Visual Inspection in Harkaway focuses on what can be safely seen and accessed without invasive work. We look at the switchboard condition, visible wiring in accessible areas, a sample of power points and light fittings, safety switch presence, and smoke alarms. We also note obvious defects like heat damage, cracked fittings or exposed cabling, and recommend where a licensed electrician should investigate further.
No. This is a visual-only assessment, not a full electrical test or certification. We don’t open sealed electrical components, perform load testing, or certify compliance. Instead, we identify visible safety risks, likely upgrade needs, and red flags that suggest further testing by a licensed electrician. It’s ideal for pre-purchase checks and planning repairs or improvements.
We can often identify common visual indicators that a switchboard upgrade is worth considering, such as poor labelling, older-style components, untidy wiring, missing safety switches, or evidence of heat stress. However, confirming capacity, circuit performance and compliance requires an electrician. Our report helps you understand what’s visible, why it matters, and what to ask for during the follow-up inspection.
Yes. Harkaway homes often have outbuildings and outdoor electrical points that have been added over years, sometimes with mixed workmanship. We pay close attention to visible cabling routes to sheds and external fittings, checking for weatherproofing issues, physical damage and unsafe mounting. If we see anything concerning, we’ll recommend a licensed electrician assess the circuit protection and installation method.
Make sure the switchboard is accessible and not blocked by storage. If there are sheds, garages or outdoor entertaining areas with power, unlock them so we can visually check fittings and any accessible cabling. If you have recent electrical invoices or upgrade details, have them handy. We’ll work around occupants and furniture, but clear access improves coverage and reduces missed items.
