Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We visually confirm whether smoke detectors are installed in accessible areas and record their locations. This matters because missing units are still common in older Hampton homes that have been updated in stages.
We check where detectors sit in relation to bedrooms, hallways and main exit routes. Correct placement improves early warning where it counts—especially in homes with bedrooms tucked behind living areas or down long corridors.
We look for signs the layout has changed (new walls, added rooms, converted spaces) and whether detectors appear to cover the new configuration. Renovations can create ‘new’ zones that were never fitted with alarms.
We note if detectors are positioned where airflow, beams, bulkheads or nearby vents may affect smoke reaching the sensor. Visual red flags help you target adjustments before relying on a poorly sited unit.
Where visible, we document whether units appear hardwired or battery-operated and whether interconnection is indicated on the device. We don’t test or certify electrical performance, but we flag anything that looks inconsistent across the home.
Your report includes photos and clear notes on what was observed, plus practical next steps to discuss with an electrician or the property manager. It’s designed to be easy to use during settlement, leasing, or pre-move planning.

This Smoke Detectors Assessment is a visual inspection focused on confirming presence and placement. We record where detectors are located, whether any areas appear to be missing coverage, and any obvious installation concerns we can see. It is not an electrical compliance test and we don’t verify wiring, interconnection or sound output. If anything needs further checking, we’ll recommend engaging a qualified electrician.
We visually inspect accessible internal areas such as hallways, bedrooms, living zones and any converted or newly created rooms that could affect coverage. We note the detector locations room-by-room and consider how they relate to sleeping areas and common escape routes. If some areas aren’t accessible at the time (for example locked rooms or high ceilings without safe access), we’ll document the limitation in the report.
Yes. Hampton has many low-rise apartments and townhouses, and we tailor the visual check to the unit’s layout, including internal corridors, bedroom clusters and open-plan kitchen/living areas. We confirm what detectors are present and whether placement appears appropriate for the current floorplan. For strata properties, we can also note where detectors may be within the lot versus common areas, so you know who to speak with next.
They can be. Older Hampton homes may have had detectors added over time, and renovations can change the way smoke travels and how people move through the home. New bedrooms, extended living areas or reworked hallways sometimes end up with gaps because the original detector locations were never updated. Our assessment is designed to spot those practical coverage issues and clearly show which rooms may need attention.
Booking before settlement is useful if you want written observations to help negotiate or request fixes, especially if the home has been recently renovated. Booking after moving in is still valuable, particularly if you’re unsure what’s installed or you’ve noticed layout changes like a converted garage or added bedroom. Either way, you’ll get a report that helps you plan any updates with an electrician promptly.
