Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We test for correct active/neutral polarity at accessible outlets because reversed polarity can leave appliance components live even when switched off, increasing shock risk during everyday use or maintenance.
We visually assess the switchboard for signs of heat stress, ageing components, poor workmanship and labelling issues, and confirm what protective devices are present so you know whether the board reflects modern safety expectations.
We check whether RCDs are installed on appropriate circuits and perform functional testing where possible. RCD protection is critical in areas like kitchens, laundries and outdoor points, where a fault can become a serious injury event quickly.
We confirm smoke alarms are installed and positioned appropriately for a typical dwelling layout, noting gaps or outdated units. Smoke alarms are a key life-safety control, especially in homes with older ceiling cavities or updated open-plan living areas.
We inspect visible cabling, junctions, fittings and accessible roof-space entry points (where safe) for damage, exposure, DIY joins and unsafe accessories that can overheat or create arcing faults.
We highlight common compliance and safety red flags—such as missing circuit identification, lack of RCD coverage, or unsafe modifications—so you can plan electrician rectification work and discuss risk and costs before settlement or leasing.

Many Glen Huntly homes have been updated in stages, and older wiring can be mixed with newer outlets after renovations. If an outlet is wired with incorrect polarity, parts of an appliance can remain energised even when switched off, increasing shock risk. Polarity testing helps identify these faults at accessible points so an electrician can correct them before you move in.
Yes. We review the switchboard condition and identify the type of protective devices installed, including whether safety switches (RCDs) are present on appropriate circuits. Where accessible and safe, we perform functional checks. If we find missing RCD coverage, heat stress indicators, or poor labelling, we document it clearly so you can organise rectification with a qualified electrician.
We check for the presence and general placement of smoke alarms and note obvious issues such as missing alarms, unsuitable locations, or older-looking units that may warrant replacement. Because smoke alarm requirements can vary by property type and updates, we treat this as a safety-focused review rather than a full certification. We’ll outline what we observed and what to ask an electrician to confirm.
They can be. Glen Huntly has plenty of updated units and townhouse-style developments where power points, lighting and appliance circuits are added or relocated during renovations. Issues can occur when older cabling is retained, circuits are extended without clear labelling, or RCD coverage isn’t upgraded. An assessment helps reveal practical hazards like polarity faults, insufficient protection, and unsafe visible joins before settlement or leasing.
We need safe access to the switchboard, accessible power points, and common electrical areas such as kitchens, laundries and outdoor outlets. If roof space access is available and safe, we’ll check for visible issues near entry points, but we won’t enter unsafe or obstructed spaces. If access is restricted (tenanted properties or locked meters), we’ll note limitations and advise what to arrange for follow-up.
