Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We inspect the switchboard layout for visible signs of age, crowding, corrosion, heat marks, missing blanks, poor labelling and general condition. This matters because an older or untidy board can point to a history of piecemeal changes and may not suit modern appliance loads.
We visually identify whether safety switches appear to be installed and note how the circuits are arranged at the board. RCD coverage is a key safety control for shock risk, and limited or unclear coverage can indicate the need for an electrician to review the setup.
We look for accessible, visible cabling issues such as damaged insulation, unsupported runs, exposed conductors, makeshift joins and cables run where they could be easily knocked or chewed. These defects can be early warning signs of unsafe workmanship or ageing materials.
We scan accessible outlets and fittings for cracking, burn marks, loose plates, missing covers and signs of overheating. These are practical indicators of wear, poor connections or overloading that may warrant further investigation by an electrician.
We note the presence and visible placement of smoke alarms and flag obvious gaps or outdated-looking units where they are apparent. Smoke alarm requirements can vary depending on the home’s age and renovations, so a visual check helps you plan for compliance upgrades.
Where accessible, we look at external and under-house areas for weather-exposed fittings, extension-style wiring, deteriorated conduit and non-weatherproof outlets near decks, pergolas and garages. Ferntree Gully’s leafy conditions can accelerate wear on exposed components.

An Electrical Visual Inspection in Ferntree Gully focuses on what can be safely observed without dismantling or testing. We visually check the switchboard and meter box area, look for the apparent presence of safety switches, and scan accessible wiring, outlets and light fittings for damage, heat marks or poor condition. We also note visible smoke alarm presence and obvious placement concerns, then recommend electrician follow-up where needed.
No. A visual inspection is not a compliance certificate and it doesn’t replace electrical testing by a qualified electrician. We provide an observational assessment of accessible components and flag visible safety concerns or upgrade indicators. If the home shows signs of older wiring, an aged switchboard, or unclear safety switch coverage, we’ll recommend engaging an electrician for testing and any certification required for specific works.
This is a visual-only service, so we do not perform electrical testing such as RCD trip-time testing, circuit load testing, or dismantling fittings. We can identify visible clues that testing is warranted, such as heat staining, cracked outlets, inconsistent labelling at the switchboard, or exposed wiring. If you need functional testing, we can advise you to arrange it with a licensed electrician after the visual findings.
Many Ferntree Gully houses built decades ago have had renovations or extensions, which can leave a mix of old and new electrical components. Visually, this can show up as older-style switchboards, crowded boards, limited circuit separation, or unclear safety switch coverage. While we can’t confirm capacity or compliance without testing, our visual inspection highlights indicators that a modern switchboard upgrade or electrician review may be sensible.
In homes with garages, workshops, decks or under-house storage, we often see weathered outdoor fittings, older external cabling, and ad-hoc power solutions added over time. Leafy conditions and damp areas can also contribute to corrosion or deteriorated covers. During the visual inspection, we focus on accessible external and under-house components to identify obvious exposure risks and workmanship concerns to follow up with an electrician.
