Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We visually confirm whether smoke detectors appear to be installed in accessible internal areas, including near bedrooms and main circulation routes, so you can quickly identify if the home looks under-protected.
We note whether detectors are positioned to provide early warning for bedrooms (including upstairs or split-level sleeping wings), where response time matters most at night.
For multi-level Eltham homes with stairs and landings, we record detector locations by level and highlight where coverage may not extend to all floors or key pathways.
We flag detectors placed too close to kitchens or heavy steam areas that may lead to nuisance alarms, because frequent false alarms can result in occupants disabling alarms.
We document visible issues such as missing covers, paint contamination, insecure mounting, or aged-looking units, as these can affect reliability and warrant professional replacement advice.
Your report lists each observed detector location and any apparent gaps, with straightforward recommendations on what should be checked or upgraded by a suitably qualified electrician to align with current expectations.

They often do. Split-level layouts can separate bedrooms from living areas with short stair runs and landings, which can slow the path of smoke to a detector if alarms are only in one part of the home. Our Smoke Detectors Assessment in Eltham records detector locations by level and highlights likely coverage gaps so you can plan sensible placement improvements with a qualified electrician.
No. This is a visual inspection to confirm the presence and apparent placement of smoke detectors in accessible areas. We don’t remove units, test wiring, or certify compliance, as those tasks require an appropriately qualified electrician. Our report is designed to help you identify what appears to be missing or poorly located, and what should be followed up professionally before moving in or leasing out.
We inspect accessible internal areas where a visual check is possible at the time of inspection. We focus on key zones such as near bedrooms, hallways, living areas and stair connections, and we note any areas we couldn’t access (for example, locked rooms or spaces obstructed by stored items). The report documents what we observed so you can arrange follow-up access if needed.
We regularly see detectors installed only in a central hallway while renovated areas or new bedroom zones are left without nearby coverage. Another common issue is alarms positioned too close to kitchens, which can cause frequent false alarms and lead occupants to disable them. We also see older-looking units that appear due for replacement. Our assessment flags these patterns clearly in the report.
Yes, as a visual assessment. In homes with raked ceilings or open stair voids, detector placement can be tricky because smoke may rise and collect in specific areas. We note the ceiling configuration and the observed detector locations, then highlight any placement that looks unsuitable or likely to underperform. Any final positioning decisions and installation changes should be confirmed by a qualified electrician.
