Book it for the window after formwork, reinforcement and the vapour barrier are installed, but before concrete is poured. In The Basin, sites can change quickly with weather and runoff, so aim to lock in the inspection as soon as you get notice of the pour date. If timing shifts, we’ll work with you to attend at the right stage.

At Stage 1 we focus on what’s visible and critical before concrete: base preparation, formwork/boxing, reinforcement placement and support, membrane continuity, and obvious drainage/moisture risks around the slab area. We also note service penetrations where accessible. If any items can’t be verified due to access or coverings, we document that clearly in the report.

We review the installation against relevant building requirements and good practice, and we can compare what’s on site to available documentation you provide (such as plans or engineering details). Some elements may require confirmation by the builder or engineer, particularly where documentation isn’t available on site. Our report highlights discrepancies and questions to raise before the pour.

Yes—sloping sites commonly involve cut-and-fill, retaining edges and more complex stormwater control, all of which influence slab performance. A Stage 1 inspection helps confirm the slab platform is properly prepared, that moisture control is continuous, and that water won’t pool near the slab area. These checks are valuable on The Basin blocks where natural fall and runoff can be a real factor.

We document the issue with clear photos and explain what it means, then outline practical steps to raise with the site supervisor or builder immediately.
