Our comprehensive service includes everything you need to make an informed decision about your property.
We test for correct active/neutral orientation at accessible outlets because reversed polarity can make appliances and switched items unsafe, even when they appear to operate normally.
We visually assess the switchboard for safety switches (RCDs), circuit breakers, labelling, signs of heat stress, and unsafe modifications. Switchboards are a common weak point in renovated Richmond homes where loads have increased.
We check whether safety switches are present and consider whether key circuits are likely to be protected (where identifiable). Proper RCD protection reduces the risk of electric shock in kitchens, laundries and outdoor areas.
Without invasive work, we look for visible wiring issues such as degraded insulation, unsecured cabling, DIY junctions, and unsuitable fittings in accessible areas like garages, underfloor spaces or roof void entry points.
We confirm smoke alarms are installed and note placement or condition issues that may affect performance. Where hardwired systems are present, we flag concerns that should be checked by an electrician.
You receive a clear list of safety concerns, urgency levels, and recommended actions. Where specialist electrical testing is required, we note exactly what to request from a licensed electrician so you’re not left guessing.

Many Richmond terraces and older cottages have been renovated in stages—kitchens updated, extra power points added, or lighting changed—without a full electrical upgrade. That mix can hide reversed polarity, inadequate RCD protection, or overloaded circuits at the switchboard. An Electrical Safety Assessment checks key safety indicators and highlights what should be tested or repaired by a licensed electrician before you rely on the system every day.
No. An Electrical Safety Assessment is a safety-focused inspection and targeted testing where accessible. It helps identify hazards, likely non-compliances, and items needing urgent attention. Any repairs, upgrades, or formal certification must be carried out and issued by a licensed electrician. We provide clear guidance so you can brief your electrician accurately and avoid paying for unnecessary work.
We focus on safety-critical elements: polarity at accessible outlets, visible wiring red flags, switchboard condition, presence of safety switches (RCDs), and smoke alarm presence and obvious issues. We also note practical risks like damaged fittings or unsafe modifications that can be seen without invasive testing. If areas are inaccessible or require specialised tools, we document that limitation and recommend next steps.
They can be. In Richmond, conversions and apartments may have had multiple fit-outs over time, and some units carry higher loads from air-conditioning, induction cooking and home-office setups. We commonly pay close attention to switchboard configuration, RCD coverage and signs of heat stress, as well as outlet polarity in frequently used locations. Where building access limits testing, we explain what your strata or electrician should confirm.
Ideally before settlement so you can factor findings into your decision-making and request repairs where appropriate. If that timing isn’t possible, booking immediately after moving in is still valuable—especially before using high-load appliances or starting renovation work. If you’re preparing a Richmond property for tenants, completing the assessment early also helps you address safety and smoke alarm issues without delaying the lease start.
